Why Your Vision Trumps Your Sight

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone.
I can see all the obstacles in my way.
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind.
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright) Sun-Shiny day.

shiny-brainWe can all agree that we all have a brain…right? It’s that three pounds of gray matter behind our skull. However, what distinguishes us all is what rests in our mind. It is what makes us as unique as the color of our skin. Our ethnicity. Our culture and our personal background. Nonetheless, our mind is what determines our actions, hence… Continue reading

THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, Morgan Freeman, Tim Robbins, 1994, (c) Columbia Pictures/courtesy Everett Collection

This is one of my favorite quotations from one of my favorite movies, Shawshank , starring Morgan Freeman (Red) and Tim Robbins (Andy). The scene in which this is told to Red is after both men has served many years in a maximum security prison somewhere in New England. During their conversation of the impact of being institutionalized, Red mentions to Andy that when they give you life in prison that is exactly what they get…your life. From a personal growth perspective, I believe you can have a similar scenario… Continue reading

Change Is A Good Thing

changeWe have all heard the old adage, change is constant. That means we and the world in which we exist are always in a constant state of changing. Though this may be the case, we only have control of change as it relates to us. We can’t change other people nor can we change other people’s minds. Regardless of what is happening around us we cannot change their minds however, we may be able to influence it.

There may be things we say or do and the end result is them “changing” their mind, however we didn’t change it – they had to consciously and actively do it themselves. Continue reading
